Penelope, jazz artist, vocalist, clinician, teacher and advisor is always moving forward in her promising career as a universal musician. She has performed nationwide and has released two cds under her own name.
"Music has been a part of my life as long as I can remember," says ’Penelope. Originally from Florida, she knew she was destined to live a life, which revolved around music even as a kid. She had a love for the blues, rock and roll and eventually cultivated her affinity for jazz. It was in her blood. Penelope remembers attending her first jam session at home with the neighborhood kids and ran home to begin laying down bass lines with her left hand! Bringing her talents to a small acoustic group, she developed a strong left hand for thumping base lines and rhythmic punches! Penelope drew attention from onlookers who were amazed that such a petite young girl could create such a gutsy rhythmic sound! She quickly became a huge presence in intimate music circles and eventually brought her unique qualities to numerous stages on college campuses.
Exploring all avenues of music, Penelope soon began her education in music. It wasn’t long before she could no longer deny her desire to be a part of the open road and she put the books on a shelf. The band bus was calling loudly! Penelope spent the next five years touring with top 40 bands. She hit the jackpot in New England where she found the freedom she’d been seeking with her first Real Book…jazz and jam sessions with the area musicians! Jazz in July at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst came next. Penelope spent the next 15 years immersed in musical associations with jazz greats, clinics, workshops and eventually received her Master of Music degree at Georgia State University in Atlanta.
Penelope has received her inspiration from Dr. Billy Taylor, Maria Schneider, Mary Lou Williams, Duke Ellington, Dave Brubeck, Marian McPartland, among others. Many of her jazz influences cross the boundaries of jazz to include sacred music. Penelope is an avid spiritual seeker and philosopher, and has taken her music to a higher level, integrating jazz and gospel into the life of spiritual communities from Atlanta Georgia to Los Angeles, California.
Currently, Penelope resides in Roswell, GA. She remains involved as worship leader and musician for New Thought conferences and Spiritual Centers and Retreats. Penelope continues to serve as consultant, teacher, and performer, while composing music for secular, sacred and educational venues. Penelope has always managed to keep every aspect of her career and life in balance. Music to Penelope is like the air she breathes and believes that every human being must find their own meaning to the beauty of life. To her, it is simple. Music is life. Life is Music.
